Naomi Campbell to Receive Icon Award

Naomi Campbell will receive the CFDA’s
Fashion Icon award on June 4.
That’s right, Campbell has not yet
won this award.
Campbell is a fashion icon with or
without an award, but it seems strange that she is only just now receiving this
honor.
Past recipients include Rihanna,
Kate Moss, Beyoncé, David Bowie and Pharrell Williams.
That’s right. Pharrell Williams won
before Naomi Campbell.
Campbell has been modeling since
the early 1970s and is widely considered to be a supermodel.
It seems strange that the CFDA
would choose to honor people like Rihanna or Williams before they honored one
of the most iconic models to walk a catwalk.
Maybe it seemed too obvious to
choose Campbell in the past, and now that she has retired it is appropriate.
Whatever the reason, Campbell is finally
receiving the long-deserved honor now.
“It is truly an honor to be
recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award,” said Campbell said
in an interview published in Vogue. “Being from London, my personal style has
always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature
of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m
forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me
and celebrated me throughout my career.”
Hopefully, the CFDA will continue
to give their Icon award to true fashion icons.
