Harry Potter & Twilight Releases

Today is a huge day for fans of Harry Potter and Twilight because both of these franchises have released new books!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has been released with illustrations by Jim Kay. Kay has filled the first installment with his visions of what the Potter-world would look like, and if the photos linked here give us any clue, the rest of the book will be amazing.

J.K. Rowling has announced that illustrated editions of one Harry Potter book will be released each year, so that means I get to experience Harry Potter releases until I'm 26! That's great news for any Potterhead.

Rereading the Harry Potter series is one of my favorite past-times so I'm grateful for any excuse to do so. The fact that this re-read will contain beautiful, full-color illustrations just makes it even better.

This is definitely my most-anticipated October release and I cannot wait to get my hands on this.

Now on to the Twilight release!

As many fans of the series would know, this October marked the tenth anniversary of Twilight!

To celebrate the momentous occasion, Stephanie Meyer announced she would release a special Tenth-Anniversary Edition of the first installment in the series, and that it would include "bonus content."

Fans all over the internet and GoodReads speculated that the bonus content would be Meyer's unfinished novel Midnight Sun. Many were doubtful that that would be the case, however, due to the fact that after it was leaked several years ago, Meyer vowed not to publish it.

The special edition launched today and the bonus content has turned out to be... A gender-bended version of the entire novel!

That's right! Edward is now Edythe and Bella is now Beau in Life and Death, the reimagined version of the beloved book. And while many are disappointed that this is not their beloved Midnight Sun, which would tell the same story but from Edward's perspective, I am curious how this is going to change the story.

Yes, I must admit that changing nothing but genders does seem boring and uncreative but it could be good. And let's be honest, Twlight has always been a cheesy, guilty pleasure read anyway.

October 6th has definitely been an exciting day for Twilight and Harry Potter fans, as well as Percy Jackson fans due to Rick Riordan's release of the first Magnus Chase novel. I have never read Riordan's works, however, so I am not nearly as excited about this release as the others.
